Pune Murder Case: Court Extends Police Custody of Two Accused in Ketan Agrawal Murder Investigation
A Maharashtra court has extended police custody of Siya Goyal and Chetan Babulal Chaudhary in the alleged murder of real estate executive Ketan Agrawal at Lohagad Fort. Investigators are reconstructing the crime scene, tracing evidence, and examining an alleged murder conspiracy after the death was initially reported as an accident.
Siya Goyal and Chetan Babulal Chaudhary were produced before the Vadgaon Maval Court on June 29 after the completion of their initial police custody. The two were arrested on June 23 and had remained in police custody until June 29. Following the hearing, the court allowed investigators an additional five days to continue the probe.
During the hearing, the investigating officers informed the court that several crucial aspects of the investigation remain incomplete. Police said they need to conduct a detailed recreation of the crime scene in the presence of both accused to verify the sequence of events. Investigators also told the court that Siya allegedly tore and burned Ketan Agrawal's passport, and efforts are continuing to recover its remains.
Police further stated that Chetan Chaudhary allegedly changed his clothes after the murder, and investigators are tracing his movements following the incident. Officials are also examining the details of the telephone conversations allegedly exchanged between the two accused after the crime.
On June 28, one day before the court hearing, police escorted Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary to Lohagad Fort to recreate the sequence of events. To ensure the exercise was conducted without disruption, authorities temporarily closed the fort to visitors and restricted public entry for safety reasons. During the reconstruction, investigators used a dummy to verify how the incident allegedly unfolded.
Ketan Agrawal, aged 26, was a resident of Gahunje in Pune district and served as the Director and Chief Marketing Officer of Success Group, a family-operated real estate business. On June 18, his body was discovered at the bottom of a gorge nearly 400 feet deep at Lohagad Fort.
Following the incident, Siya Goyal, who was Ketan Agrawal's fiancée, informed Lonavala Rural Police that he had accidentally slipped into the gorge during an outing and claimed that strong winds contributed to the fall. Based on her statement, police initially registered an accidental death case.
However, subsequent investigation led police to conclude that Ketan Agrawal had allegedly been deliberately pushed into the gorge and that the incident had been carefully staged to resemble an accident.
According to investigators, Siya Goyal was allegedly involved in a relationship with 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, a resident of Kondhwa in Pune. Police allege that Chetan considered Ketan Agrawal an obstacle to their relationship, leading the two accused to allegedly conspire to kill him.
Investigators claim that Siya persuaded Ketan Agrawal to visit Lohagad Fort under the pretext of a casual outing, while Chetan Chaudhary was called to the location separately. Police allege that the two accused then pushed Ketan Agrawal from behind, causing him to fall into the deep gorge where he died.
The investigation has also revealed details of an alleged earlier attempt on Ketan Agrawal's life. Police said Siya and Ketan first visited Lohagad Fort on May 31. Four days later, on June 4, Siya reportedly insisted on returning to the fort, but Ketan's mother did not permit the trip. On June 14, she allegedly convinced him to visit the fort once again.
During that visit, investigators allege that Siya attempted to push Ketan Agrawal off a cliff. According to police, he managed to survive by grabbing hold of a bush. When he questioned Siya about why she had pushed him, she allegedly claimed that she had seen a snake and was attempting to pull him away from danger.
The case has attracted significant public attention as investigators continue to gather evidence to establish the alleged conspiracy behind the murder. With police custody extended, investigators are expected to complete the reconstruction of the crime, recover remaining evidence, and verify the sequence of events before proceeding with the next stage of the legal process.
